A ceramic urn for a token amount of ash (about a cupful). Available in a variety of clay types: terracotta, black and craft crank (buff). Fired to 1240/50 so able to resist frost should it be placed outdoors. Ashes are inserted through a small opening to the rear of the urn ( a small funnel is provided). This aperture can then be sealed with either sealing wax or epoxy resin. The design is reminiscent of Neolithic and Iron Age cultural artefacts. The purpose of this piece is to provide a tactile link to the deceased person. The curves and ridges of the design sit comfortably into the hand . This is Sculpture with a purpose; a transitional object, designed to be handled.
