Dissolvable Garments
Pia has been using dissolvable textiles for a number of years as a means with which to investigate the notion of transformation, disappearance and remainder. These experiments became the focus of the first chapter of her doctoral thesis ‘DISSOLVING BODIES: DISSOLVABLE GARMENTS’, in which she explores the manner in which dissolvable garments challenge contemporary theories regarding the function of clothing and fashion, whilst being an analogy for the impermanence of the human body. Each garment became a second skin, more vulnerable and fragile than the skin that it covered.
