Bucket lists are a load of rubbish...here’s why

June 25, 2018, 2:45 p.m.

Do you really need a bucket list to be happy? Are bucket lists all about swimming with dolphins and skydiving? Surely bucket lists are a load of rubbish? You’re absolutely right. Here are some little known tidbits of info on bucket lists that might surprise you...or might make you even more cynical. Hey, you can’t say we gave it a shot!

Bucket lists are just full of travel goals - I don’t like the thought of suffering from jet lag just to see an elephant wash itself

What if you don’t enjoy traveling? Who says bucket lists need to be full of traveling to far-flung places? It’s a little-known fact that some of the best bucket list ideas simply involve the people in your life. Bucket lists can be all about the people you love.

Take our blog about couple’s bucket list ideas as a prime example. None of it involves traveling or extreme activities. It just involves you and your partner and making the most of your time together because life really is too short.

Ideas such as ‘write a love letter’ and ‘make a personalised music playlist’ can be done for friends and family too. A love letter isn’t just about romantic love. It can just be about how much you adore your mum and what she does for you. It’s all about telling your loved ones how you feel before it’s too late. So, when the time comes, you’ll feel safe in the knowledge that they knew exactly just how much you loved them and why.

What we’re saying here is it’s the people that make the party when it comes to bucket lists.

Cliche bucket list

I hate bucket lists because they’re full of unattainable goals and cliches

This is so true...especially if you’re basing your bucket list off of cookie cutter websites. It’s OK to dream big - but not for your entire bucket list.

A bucket list isn’t necessarily a ‘want-list’...it’s an ‘I’m going to do’ list.

Write down what you will do in life. That means stuff you can do within your budget, responsibilities (kids, pets, etc) and values. Check out this guide on how to create a bucket list that’s actually achievable and, dare we say it, life-affirming.

Ideally, a bucket list should contain things you can do right at this very second. No one knows the exact time and date of their death. So that’s why it’s so important that your bucket list is achievable.

live for the moment bucket list

I’m much more of a ‘living for the moment’ kind of person. Isn’t a bucket list just a way of planning your life?

Bucket lists are ridiculous because it’s essentially a way to pre-plan your life, right? Yep - that’s right...except there’s a twist to it.

Bucket lists are a gateway, not a schedule. It’s not like your everyday to-do list for work. It’s a way of framing your mind so you open yourself up to new opportunities...and with new opportunities come all those awesome random experiences you didn’t put down on your bucket list.

So, really those ‘random’ incredible experiences aren’t so random at all.

For example, you put down ‘take a dance class’ as a bucket list item. OK, this may seem like a teeny tiny bucket list item not worth writing down.

But wait...

You go to the dance class, you make new friends, those friends take you to a festival and you end up dancing on stage with a big-name band. You literally couldn’t write it...but you can 100% plant the seed for the ‘random’ events.

Create a bucket list with huunuu today and tick off the things you’re going to do in life - no matter how big or small...

OK, ok! I'll see what all this fuss about bucket lists is about...
